Fr. Jason is the pastor of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Carnegie, and in one of his recent trips back to Ukraine he came across an elderly woman in one of the outdoor markets selling beautiful hand-painted religious icons. She explained to him that her daughter was blessed with an incredible gift of being able to reproduce these beautiful images in striking detail.  However, because of the war she had to paint (write) them on scraps of wood that she could find and because there was no electricity she oftentimes had to do her work by candlelight.  Fr. Jason brought some of the icons home with him and when I saw them I thought that we could help this family out in war-torn Ukraine by selling their hand-painted icons of the Resurrection which we could use in our homes this Easter.  We have already pre-ordered 25 of them but will be able to order more if there is an interest.  These Easter icons will not only remind us of the Lord’s victory over sin and death but will also, in some small way, connect us to our suffering brothers and sisters in Ukraine who are enduring their Good Friday.
